Building Energy was founded in 2003 by Ingo Stroup, who has been involved in the Building Science industry since 1980. He was one of the original participants in establishing Energy Star in Idaho and has continued to grow and build his knowledge about the environmental and energy efficiency industries. Because of his dedication to indoor air quality, savings on utility costs and quality assurance (QA), Building Energy has become Idaho's largest Energy Star/ NAHB Green Verifier with verification, testing diagnostics and QA work performed throughout Idaho and the Northwest.

Building Energy, Inc., has received the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA 2011 Energy Star for Homes Leadership in Housing Award. This national award recognizes an Idaho energy company’s work in promoting energy efficient construction and helping to protect the environment through its partnership with Energy Star. Building Energy was also awarded this designation in 2009 and 2010.
Building Energy, Inc. has also been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a 2011 Indoor airPLUS Leader for advancing indoor air quality and healthier homes for the building industry. One of only eight organizations recognized nationally, Building Energy is at the forefront of verifying standards for improving air quality in newly constructed homes and buildings.
